The Competition Between Windows Phone 7 And The Apple IPhone

Many Windows fanatics feel that the Windows Phone 7 will be able to be a true competitor to the iPhone. With many phones trying to compete, the iPhone has always stayed on top. Windows, however, has really come up with a product that is on the same level as the iPhone.

While Apple iPhone has quite a bit of great technology and has a lot going for it, Windows 7 OS has even more. Apple is chained to the GSM carrier ATT, while Windows 7 Phone is going to be having models on GSM and CDMA. Windows also has a one up on Apple because it will have both an on screen and physical keyboard which will give the user more versatility. This is something that most people enjoy having on a phone.

As with the iPhone, Windows has a stream lined and neatly organized home screen. Each folder and icon on the home screen is called a Hub. Windows is able to fully multi task as well. With the iPhone, when you close most programs to open a new one, the program truly shuts down. It cannot run in the background.

Windows 7 Phone or WP7 (as it is nicknamed) is being marketed towards the hip teenagers to young adults. Basically, they are aiming their marketing towards those who text, IM and are socially networked. Apple markets to everyone with their generic commercials. Apple also has a vast array of features and apps geared towards everyone who could use it. WP7 is marketed to that crowd because of the extreme social network integration. Some of its phones will have Motoblur, which streamlines all social networks onto one screen.

WP7 is integrated with Microsoft’s popular ZuneHD music player. This is compared to iTunes as the iPhones basic platform for music play. The phone is also classified as a gaming phone because it is integrated with XBox Live. Many different games are going to be coming as a mobile version as well to play. EA Games is one of those manufacturers that will be taking advantage of this great new technology. While the iPhone can run many different games that you would download, it is not considered a gaming phone as the WP7 is.

When you have an iPhone and lose it, you have to have a MobileMe subscription to try to stop the thief or potential thief at all. MobileMe is a hefty subscription to their service yearly while WP7 has it free of charge. With Find My Phone, your phone will ring, lock itself and track your phone with it’s sophisticated GPS service. It does all of this remotely. This is something that Apple lacks.

The Windows Phone 7 could actually be a competitor to the iPhone. The design and functionality are very similar, but features are different. Windows hopes to start launching their phones before the end of 2010.
