Study Finds Internet Use Infiltrates The Whole House.
When thinking about the internet, it is easy to imagine sitting at a desk surrounded by desktop computer equipment, but nowadays most of us use more up-to-date methods of connecting to the web. As a result, our internet usage has infiltrated into most of the rooms in our homes – not just an office or dedicated computer room.
A study was conducted recently by retailer PC World scrutinising the surfing habits of members of the British public at home. The survey dealt with the responses of 5,000 people to questions regarding internet usage. It found that people spent, on average, two hours connected to the web when in bed at night.
Around 50% of those that took part in the survey also claimed to spend around half an hour a day using a mobile phone when they were in the bathroom, largely taking the time to send messages to friends and family or to check emails and messages online.
Even the kitchen sees a fair amount of internet usage. PC World’s study demonstrated that the public average an hour and a quarter of internet use in the kitchen every day, thanks largely to communication and entertainment. This compared with less than an hour spent in the kitchen eating and cooking.
The fact that the internet is now used all over the house is probably because the modern devices used to access it are so portable and sophisticated. They appeal to people as much more their style as they do for their practical features. Smartphones also feature apps that allow people to access the internet quickly for very specific purposes.
On top of this, the internet is now used for a huge variety of different things, rather than just being a resource for information. Hence, it is use more widely for entertainment and to keep in instant contact with friends whatever your location.
