Love and life in a Chinese furniture factory
My name is Mei-Lu Chan, and I live in the Fujian province in mainland China. I have recently turned 38, and each day I go to work in a furniture factory. The factory is renowned for pine furniture ,and I have worked there my entire life. Recently I was promoted, to the farmhouse table section and I have been very happy here. The factory exports all over the world, but predominantly to Europe.
My ambition is to be married with one son , however my friends tell me I am ugly, due to the arrangement of my teeth, gradually I have been working overtime, and visiting a dentist who has been working on them. The more work he does the more beautiful I feel. My teeth used to protrude at the front ,and I had a few black teeth, from a bad diet.
I have never had a boyfriend, because of my lack of confidence, however the more relaxed I feel, the better I feel about myself, and my chances of fulfilling my dreams come nearer.
At work, there is a pine wardrobe section, in it works the most amazing man. I go past the section, as often as possible hoping to bump into him. He is much older then me, but a foreman at the factory. He is losing his hair and not considered handsome, but I love him deeply. I always try to bump into him, or fall over in the hope that he will help me.
Last week , when he was not looking, I threw a big piece of wood at him, unfortunately it hit him on the head and knocked him out. I thought that I had killed him,and ran over to him, I held his head in my arms, and as I was stroking his head he came round. He groaned as he was in pain, but thinking quickly I told him ,that a lump of metal, fell on him,and nearly killed him,and I saved his life. he looked at me, and told me that as I saved his life ,he was always indebted to me,and would like to marry me immediately. He said he thought I was very beautiful, and had superb teeth,he did not think that anyone as beautiful as me would be interested in an ugly man like him. Before anyone could change their mind,I married him that afternoon.
